“Fool To Cry” was the first single released by the Rolling Stones from the 1976 album Black And Blue.
The song was backed by “Hot Stuff” in the U.S. and “Crazy Mama” in the U.K.
“Fool To Cry” was recorded in December 1974, but the band continued to tinker with it into January 1975.
Singer-guitarist Keith Richards has admitted that he once fell asleep on stage playing this song.
American guitarist Wayne Perkins, who played on “Fool To Cry,” was one of the players the Stones considered to replace Mick Taylor, who left the band in December 1974.
Guitarist Ron Wood, who ultimately joined the band, is featured on the cover of the Black And Blue album, though he was not in the band for the entire recording process.
Black And Blue spent four weeks at Number One on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified platinum. It reached Number Two in the U.K.
Controversy surrounded the album after billboards advertising it showed a smiling woman who had been tied and beaten. Women's rights groups criticized the ad.
