“Back Off Boogaloo” was produced as a one-off single between ex-Beatle drummer Ringo Starr's albums Beaucoups Of Blues and Ringo.
He enlisted the help of his former bandmate George Harrison to produce and play on the track, along with longtime Beatles associate Klaus Voorman and keyboardist Gary Wright.
“Back Off Boogaloo” is said to be Starr's musical response to Paul McCartney in the wake of court actions between him and the rest of the Beatles. “Boogaloo” was reportedly one of McCartney's nicknames.
“Blindman,” the B-side of “Boogaloo,” was written by Starr for the 1971 film of that name in which he appeared.
In 1972, “Boogaloo” reached Number Nine on the Billboard Hot 100 and Number Two on the U.K. chart.
It didn't appear on a Starr album until the 1975 retrospective Blast From Your Past.
