Study: Pesticide Spray Is Not Killing Roaches

Researchers from the University of Kentucky and Auburn University recently discovered that common insecticide sprays aren’t stopping cockroaches. The German cockroach, which is common in apartments and homes worldwide, seems resistant to residual insecticides. These sprays are supposed to leave a toxic layer on surfaces, but researchers found that after 30 minutes of exposure, fewer than 20% of roaches died. “If residents do not have access to effective professional pest control or consumer solutions, they continue to be impacted by the effects of an infestation, including the health risks associated with cockroach allergens,” lead author Johnalyn Gordon, Ph.D., said.
