Study: How Do Teens Really Use AI?

According to research from the University of Illinois, parents don’t know how teens are using AI. While most adults assume their kids use chatbots as an academic tool, researchers found that teens use AI for emotional support, relationship advice, and social interaction. Some teenagers even develop romantic attachments to chatbots, which can be embedded in platforms like Snapchat and Instagram. The study examined interviews with 7 teens and their parents, and also analyzed 712 Reddit posts related to use of AI. “It’s a very heated topic, with a lot of teenagers talking about Character AI and how they are using it,” Yaman Yu said.
