The study, conducted by the University of Copenhagen, surveyed over 144,000 Americans. States like California, Alabama, and Mississippi with high crime rates and poverty also showed high dark traits. Geographical isolation and cultural heritage were suggested as reasons for lower dark traits in Alaska, Oregon, and Rocky Mountain states.
