A Colombian family has named their newborn daughter “Chat Yipiti” after the AI program ChatGPT, sparking debate. The parents registered the unusual name without objection at the National Registry office in Cereté. They said they chose it as a “tribute” to the era of artificial intelligence. This is not the first unconventional name registered in Colombia. The country has a history of allowing names inspired by sports, movies, and music stars, like “Maicol Yordan” and “Brayan Spears.” While Colombia’s law does not prohibit specific names, officials can deny registration if they believe it could harm a child’s dignity or reputation. Experts warn that unusual or joke names can expose children to ridicule, affecting their self-esteem and emotional well-being. However, the practice of naming children after pop culture icons remains common across Latin America. (UPI)
