Americans Reread Favorite Books To Relive Nostalgia

According to a survey of 2,000 U.S. readers, the average person has read their favorite book six times and plans to read it seven more times. The top reasons for rereading are to revisit the book’s setting (36%) and characters (35%), as well as to evoke a sense of familiarity and nostalgia (27%). Over 70% of readers, especially Gen Z at 84%, purposefully reread books to feel wistful and sentimental. Psychologists say nostalgia provides “psychological safety” by reconnecting readers with known stories during times of stress and change. While print books remain most popular, readers also turn to TV, cooking, and exercise to maintain a sense of stability and comfort. (Story URL)
