Canada Receives Funding To Develop Nuclear Reactor For Lunar Missions

The Canadian Space Agency awarded $1 million to Canadian Space Mining Corporation to create a low-enriched uranium nuclear reactor for moon operations. Company founder Daniel Sax says “Canada is really good at space technology. We’re also really good at nuclear,” explaining the nation’s push to contribute to lunar exploration efforts. NASA aims to place a nuclear reactor on the moon by 2030, ahead of China and Russia’s joint reactor plans by five years. The technology addresses power needs for sustained lunar presence, where 14-day periods of darkness follow 14 days of sunlight.
