Sometimes the best wedding memories aren’t the ones you planned.
Visha and Ankeet Shah were deep into their Garba celebration at the Oklahoma City Convention Center when tornado sirens cut the music short. With nearly 400 guests to move to safety, the wedding planner and venue staff cleared the room in minutes.
But here’s where it gets good.
A volleyball tournament was happening in the same building, and the OKC Heat 15 National Volleyball Team ended up sheltering in the same space. Instead of scrolling their phones and waiting it out, those girls jumped right into the party. They took photos with the couple, chanted for them, danced with them, and even learned the Garba.
No music. No plan. Just strangers deciding to show up for somebody else’s joy.
“They made us feel like royalty,” Ankeet said.
Visha was emotional, but in the best way. “I was crying a little bit, but it was no longer sad tears. It was these joyful tears of complete strangers encouraging us.”
A tornado warning could have wrecked their night. Instead, it gave them a story they’ll be telling forever.
Sometimes when everything goes sideways, people surprise you.
