Rolling Stones manager-producer Andrew Loog Oldham was given “Time Is On My Side,” originally recorded by soul singer Irma Thomas, by music-industry impresarios Tommy LiPuma andBob Krasnow.
The Stones actually recorded the song twice: originally in London — the version that was first released as a single — and later in Chicago while the Stones toured the U.S. The latter version was substituted as the single and appeared on the Stones' 12×5 album.
Keith Richards has said that “Time Is On My Side” reminds him of Brian Jones.
“Time Is On My Side” was the Stones' first Top 10 single in the U.S.
A live version of “Time Is On My Side” was also the B-side of the 1982 single “Twenty Flight Rock.”
12×5 was the first Stones album to hit the Top Five in the U.S., reaching Number Three on the Billboard 200 and earning a gold album certification.
