Boston was formed by Tom Scholz, a Toledo, Ohio, native and M.I.T. graduate who was an engineer and product designer at Polaroid, and who moonlighted in rock-and-roll bands.
An admitted perfectionist, Scholz said that he thinks Don't Look Back was rushed: “The management and record company… literally pulled the rug out from under me at the last minute. That record was never done — I still don't consider side two to be a completed side of music. There was no doubt that I was compromised.”
Don't Look Back has sold well over seven million copies — but still nowhere near the 17 million copies that the previous album has sold.
Don't Look Back hit Number One on the Billboard 200, and peaked at Number Nine in the U.K.
It would be eight years before Boston released their next album, Third Stage.
