The first single from Desolation Angels, “Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy” peaked at Number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The song initiated something of a commercial and critical comeback for Bad Company, whose previous album, 1977's Burnin' Sky, had not fared as well as the British group's first two albums.
“Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy” was marked by drummer Simon Kirke's use of synthesized drums atop Bad Company's familiar meat-and-potatoes rock groove.
While the group was making Desolation Angels, there were rumors that it was on the verge of splitting up — which, obviously, proved untrue.
Desolation Angels peaked at Number Three on the Billboard 200 and at Number 10 on the U.K. charts.
It also sold more than two million copies, a marked improvement from Burnin' Sky, which sold less than a million.
