Study: Older AI Bots Show Signs Of Dementia

A recent study found that AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini can show signs of dementia. Researchers from Tel Aviv University had AI systems take the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, and found some older models displayed signs of cognitive decline. ChatGPT 4 and Claude scored 25/30, which indicates mild cognitive impairment, and Gemini 1.0 scored 16/30. All AI systems tested struggled with visuospatial tasks like copying a cube and drawing a clock showing a specific time. When it comes to using AI making medical recommendations, researchers note that “patients may question the competence of an artificial intelligence examiner if the examiner itself shows signs of cognitive decline.” (Study Finds)
