Researchers from three universities examined the dialogue from 160,000 English-language films over the past 50 years, and discovered that more and more characters are talking about murder. This mirrors other findings suggesting visual violence in movies is on the rise. “Characters in noncrime movies are also talking more about killing and murdering today than they did 50 years ago,” Brad Bushman of The Ohio State University found. “We found increases in violence cross all genres.” 7% of all movies analyzed contained “murderous verbs” in their dialogue.
