At least 146 people in Kansas have been infected with tuberculosis. This is one of America’s largest outbreaks of the respiratory disease, with Wyandotte County and Johnson County reporting a total of 67 active cases on Friday. TB, which is potentially deadly, usually impacts lungs but can affect other body parts, according to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Active TB can spread to others when an infected person coughs or speaks. Antibiotics are used to treat the condition. The World Health Organization reported that over 8 million people worldwide were diagnosed with TB in 2023. (UPI)
