The incident took place during Gilder’s apprehension on Interstate 10 in Chipley, Florida, following a robbery at a Tiffany & Co. store in Orlando. Despite initial suspicions of narcotics ingestion, a field test yielded no illegal substances. Gilder, known for previous jewelry thefts, eventually passed the stolen diamonds after a two-week ordeal. Facing robbery and grand theft charges in Florida, Gilder also has outstanding felony charges in Colorado.
