A 7-year-old girl from Chicago’s south suburbs is being called a hero after stepping up in a big way when her dad needed help.
Xavier Dates was at home enjoying a quiet evening with his daughter, Mia, when he slipped on the stairs, fell, and hit his head. Mia instantly knew something was wrong.
She grabbed her dad’s phone and calmly called 911.
When paramedics arrived, they found something remarkable amid the chaos. A focused, steady 7-year-old who had already secured the family dog, found the keys, unlocked the door, and cleared the way so help could get inside fast.
First responders say her actions saved valuable time and possibly much more.
Xavier was taken to the hospital and is now recovering well, thanks in large part to Mia’s quick thinking. She says she knew what to do because her mom had taught her how to handle emergencies.
Her bravery did not go unnoticed. Local leaders stopped by to thank her, and her dad could not be prouder.
Sometimes heroes do not wear capes. Sometimes they are seven years old, calm under pressure, and right where they are needed most.
