Ollie Faircloth spent years deciding what to wish for. No trip to Disney. No meeting a celebrity. The 12-year-old Nashville cancer survivor chose something different: he wanted to give back.
Ollie battled an aggressive form of cancer and during treatment, LEGOs became his lifeline. They helped him stay positive and gave him something to focus on when things were hard. So when Make-A-Wish came calling, Ollie knew exactly what he wanted to do with it.
He donated LEGO sets to children at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.
“I knew how hard it was being in the hospital and not having anything to do,” Ollie said.
His mom Miah said he wanted his wish to leave something lasting. “He said I really want something to be left over,” she recalled.
It did. Make-A-Wish Middle Tennessee shared Ollie’s story and it inspired donations of more than 514 additional LEGO sets for pediatric patients.
“Even if times are good for you, someone else out there might still be struggling and we need to help them no matter what,” Ollie said.
Hard to argue with that.
