We’ve got your Mood Boost this morning, and this one is something else. Meet Cassian. A little boy in Orlando who has technically been born twice. At just 19 weeks, Cassian was diagnosed with a condition called CHAOS, where his airway was completely blocked before birth. His parents knew they were in a race against time. So doctors tried something they had never done before.
At 25 weeks, they partially delivered Cassian, just his head outside the womb, repaired his airway, and put him back. Then closed everything up and let mom carry him the rest of the way. It worked. It’s the first time that surgery has ever been successful for a baby in his situation. Cassian is now approaching his first birthday, and his family is planning a party on the anniversary of the surgery that saved his life.
He still has a road ahead, at least three more surgeries before he turns two. But this family, who had to prepare to say goodbye more than once, gets to say happy birthday instead. That’s your Mood Boost.
