Tim Mosenfelder/WireImageAerosmith drummer Joey Kramer apparently is experiencing some not-so-sweet emotions regarding the fellow members of his famous group.
TMZ reports that Kramer has sued his fellow Aerosmith band mates — Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton and Brad Whitford — claiming they unfairly won’t allow him to perform with them at upcoming events, including at the Grammy Awards this Sunday and at the group’s upcoming Las Vegas residency shows.
According to TMZ, Kramer’s lawsuit claims that after he suffered some minor injuries in spring 2019 that forced him to miss some shows, the other Aerosmith members asked him to basically audition to prove he was “able to play at an appropriate level” before they would allow him to perform with the band again.
Joey also complains in the suit that for his audition, he was asked to play a series of solo rehearsals, drumming along to a “click track” without the other band members present, and that the rest of the group would then listen to recordings of the rehearsals before deciding his fate.
Kramer alleges that the stress of the situation adversely affected his health, and he wound up in the hospital in November, which then meant he had to hire and pay a replacement drummer that cost him tens of thousands of dollars.
TMZ reports that when Joey finally did record his rehearsals, the other band members decided to not allow him to rejoin the group, telling him he “did not have enough ‘energy’ in the recordings.”
Kramer asking a court to order Aerosmith to allow him to play with the band, thereby avoiding causing him “irreparable harm.”
ABC Audio reached out to Aerosmith’s reps for a comment regarding the lawsuit but hasn’t received a response.
