After a three-day power outage left residents of Nashville Christian Towers without heat, elevators, or working alarms—and caused food to spoil—Glenda and Gary Duncan took action.
Learning that many seniors were cold, hungry, and feeling abandoned, the couple prepared sandwiches and gathered snacks and water. Before elevator service was restored, they carried supplies up six flights of stairs, feeding more than 100 residents across multiple meals.
The outage spoiled groceries many seniors had purchased with limited incomes, creating a second crisis even after power returned. The Duncans say their goal was simple: meet an immediate need and offer reassurance. Once help arrived and electricity was restored, residents’ spirits lifted—smiles replacing the strain of the previous days.
The couple hopes additional support will help replenish lost food supplies and better protect vulnerable residents during future outages.
