A St. Louis man is being hailed for a grassroots act of kindness after a major snowstorm. Kenneth Harrell spent about $500 of his own money to rent heavy equipment and personally clear snow-packed neighborhood streets—completely free.
Harrell doesn’t live in the area he helped but said it made no sense that people could leave their homes yet couldn’t drive off their streets. Videos of his Bobcat-style skid steer quickly went viral, drawing praise from residents and local businesses he assisted.
City officials were aware and supportive, with the Streets Commissioner saying if it helps people, he’s not stopping it. Neighbors summed it up simply: “This is what community looks like.”
