An 11-year-old boy in Tyler, Texas walked into a courtroom for his adoption hearing and got the surprise of his life. Nearly 45 of his fifth-grade classmates from Bell Elementary packed the room to cheer him on.
After two years in foster care, Cain Coles was officially adopted by Vandria and Tyrone Johnson. And in that moment, he also got a new name: Alexander Kaine Johnson. His choice.
About a hundred family members and friends were there too. The judge praised the Johnsons for never giving up. A neighbor summed it up simply: “Anytime anybody gets adopted, it’s just a beautiful example of God’s love for us.”
Alexander said it best himself: “All my friends were with me, and I thank them for being my friends.”
He walked in as Cain. He walked out as Alexander Kaine Johnson, with a forever family and an entire school at his back.
