Westlake, Ohio has a program called “Are You Okay?” where seniors get a daily check-in call. When a 91-year-old woman missed hers, dispatchers called. No answer. Her daughter called. No answer. So police showed up, used an access code to get in the garage, saw her car still there, and braced for the worst.
She was in her bedroom. Playing video games. Trying to beat her high score.
The officer’s radio call back to dispatch: “We’re here with her. She’s playing video games in her bedroom.”
The police captain said everyone got a good laugh. The woman was grateful for the check-in. And the whole thing proved two things: programs like that are worth every penny… and you are never too old to chase a high score.
