Caroline had one rule when she and Wesley started planning their May wedding: her grandmother had to be there.
It wasn’t a casual preference. Caroline describes her grandmother, known to everyone as Missy, as her best friend. “She is my grandmother, but she and my grandfather were such an active part of our lives,” Caroline said. “My grandmother and I are two peas in a pod.”
So when Missy was admitted to TriStar Horizon Medical Center in Dickson, Tennessee just one month before the wedding, Caroline didn’t hesitate. She told Wesley they were getting married at the hospital.
She approached the nursing team with a modest request — could they use Missy’s room or the hospital chapel? What happened next was anything but modest.
The staff transformed the West Pavilion lobby into a full wedding venue. Flowers were arranged, furniture was moved, and day shift nurses volunteered to stay late — not just to set up, but to help Missy get ready and stand by her side through every moment of the ceremony. Missy was even able to sign the marriage certificate herself.
And then came the best part. By May 16th — the couple’s original wedding date — Missy had been discharged. She attended the wedding as a guest.
Some love stories are about the couple. This one belongs to a grandmother and her granddaughter, and the hospital staff that made sure neither of them had to miss a thing.
