Niall Harbison feeds around a thousand stray dogs a day on the island of Koh Samui in Thailand. Most of them thank him with a wagging tail. One puppy named Snickers had a different idea.
Her first gift was a single flip flop, a woman’s size, dropped at Harbison’s feet like she’d picked it out herself. After that, something new showed up every day for an entire year. Toys, sandals, whatever she could scavenge from the street.
“All she had to give was whatever she could find on the streets and her entire heart,” Harbison said.
Eventually Harbison brought Snickers into his rescue, Happy Doggo, for good. She’d never played fetch in her life, too busy dodging trucks to ever relax. It took her about ten minutes to learn. On the day she officially became a resident, Harbison gave her something back, a whole box of toys, just for her.
Snickers is still waiting on her forever family. Whoever they turn out to be, they’re getting a dog who already knows exactly how to show love. She spent a year proving it, one gift at a time.
